Masseter Botox in Dubai: Slimmer Jawline and Fewer Tension Headaches

Masseter Botox in Dubai by French maxillofacial surgeon Dr Le Roux: slim the lower face and resolve tension headaches in 4-6 weeks. What to expect, cost, FAQ.

In 30 seconds: Masseter Botox (jaw Botox, “jawtox”) slims the chewing muscle that gives the lower face a square appearance — and at the same time relaxes the involuntary clenching that drives most tension headaches. Effect builds over 2–6 weeks and lasts 4–6 months.

Why a chewing muscle causes tension headaches

The masseter is, pound-for-pound, the strongest muscle in your body. When you clench at night or under stress, it generates sustained pressure on the temporomandibular joint, irradiated tension in the temporalis muscle (above the ear), and indirect pressure on the trigeminal nerve branches that supply your forehead.

The clinical picture: morning headaches, “band-around-the-head” tension, jaw fatigue, sometimes tinnitus and tooth wear. Standard pain killers don’t address the root cause — the muscle keeps contracting.

What masseter Botox actually does

Botulinum toxin type A blocks the chemical signal (acetylcholine) that tells the muscle to contract. Injected with anatomical precision into 3 to 5 points per side of the masseter, it:

  1. Reduces muscle bulk over 4–6 weeks → visible slimming of the lower face.
  2. Stops the involuntary clenching cycle → tension headaches resolve in most patients.
  3. Protects your teeth from grinding damage and protects existing dental work (crowns, veneers, implants).

It does not impair your ability to chew. The masseter has surplus capacity; reducing 50 to 70% of its contraction strength still leaves more than enough function for normal eating.

What to expect — session by session

Time What happens
Day 0 10-minute session, 3 to 5 injections per side, no anaesthesia required. Topical numbing optional.
Day 1–3 Normal eating, talking, training. Possible mild bruise at one or two injection points.
Week 2 First effect: less morning clenching, headaches start to ease.
Week 4–6 Visible slimming of the lower face. Full headache relief.
Month 4–6 Effect peaks then gradually wears off.
Month 6 Maintenance session if you want to preserve the result.

Best candidates

You’re a good fit for masseter Botox if:

  • Your lower face looks square because of muscle bulk (not bone or fat).
  • You wake up with jaw tension, ear pressure, or recurring headache.
  • You grind your teeth at night (bruxism).
  • You’ve tried a night guard alone but symptoms persist.
  • You want to protect dental work or existing implants from grinding.

You’re not a good candidate if:

  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have a neuromuscular condition (myasthenia gravis, ALS, Lambert-Eaton).
  • Your face is already narrow — further slimming may create an inverted-V appearance.
  • You have a known allergy to botulinum toxin or its excipients.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will my face look weak after masseter Botox?
A: No. The muscle is slimmed, not paralysed. You’ll chew normally. The visible effect is subtle — a softer V-shape rather than a square jaw.

Q: How quickly does it relieve headaches?
A: Patients with tension headaches usually feel relief within 2 weeks. Full effect at 4 to 6 weeks.

Q: Can I combine masseter Botox with anti-wrinkle Botox?
A: Yes. The doses and zones are independent and routinely combined in a single session.

Q: How long until I need a top-up?
A: 4 to 6 months on average. With repeated treatments, the muscle progressively atrophies and intervals can lengthen to 8 to 9 months from the third session onwards.

Q: Is masseter Botox safe long-term?
A: Yes. Botulinum toxin has been used clinically since the 1970s. The masseter is one of the safer injection sites with minimal vascular risk when treated by an experienced injector.

Q: Will it stop my teeth grinding completely?
A: It significantly reduces the strength of grinding (50–70%). Combined with a night guard, most patients achieve full symptom control.
